First they think about the quadrilateral. All angles of this shape must add up to 360 degree.

So, 60+120+80+a=360

 260+a=360

Here subtract the worth of 260 on both sides.

That is,

 a=360-260

 a=100

Then they think about the straight line formed by the angles x & y. these one angles must add up to 180 degree.

So, a+ b=180 degree

Here substitute the worth of a.

That is a=100

Then they get,

100+b=180

Subtract the worth of 100 on both sides.

 b=180-100
